This course is aligned to the latest ISTQB® CTAL-TM syllabus and prepares participants for the internationally recognised certification exam.

Day 1: Test management foundations, context & risk-based testing

  • Test management responsibilities across delivery models (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid)
  • Planning, monitoring, control, and completion activities
  • Stakeholder alignment, reporting, and decision support
  • Quality risk identification and assessment techniques
  • Risk-based test strategy, prioritisation, and mitigation

Day 2: Test strategy and test planning at scale

  • Building a fit-for-purpose test strategy for complex environments
  • Defining scope, approach, and coverage based on risk and constraints
  • Selecting test levels and test types to match delivery goals
  • Entry/exit criteria and readiness thinking
  • Aligning test approach to governance and delivery milestones

Day 3: Estimation, metrics, and reporting for decision-making

  • Practical estimation approaches and how to defend them
  • Resourcing and scheduling under real-world constraints
  • Metrics that matter (and metrics that don’t)
  • Progress reporting that supports confident decisions
  • Using test information to manage risk and expectations

Day 4: Tool support, test process improvement, and value

  • Evaluating and selecting tools with a value/ROI lens
  • Introducing tools and changes successfully (adoption realities)
  • Test process improvement models and practical application
  • Improving efficiency without sacrificing evidence and control
  • Building sustainable ways of working across teams

Day 5: Leading people and building test capability

  • Team structures, roles, and building high-performing test teams
  • Coaching, leadership behaviours, and stakeholder influence
  • Managing conflict, constraints, and delivery pressure
  • Developing capability uplift plans and growth pathways
  • Consolidation, practice questions, and exam preparation

Duration: 37 hours of instruction
Assessment: 3-hour exam (65 multiple choice questions)
Pass Mark: 65%
Certification: ISTQB Certified Tester Advanced Level - Test Manager (internationally recognised)
